Things to Do and See

National Civil War Museum: The National Civil War Museum incorporates collections of artifacts, manuscripts, documents, photographs, and other printed matter that exceed 24,000 items. Although many items have been donated to The National Civil War Museum since its opening, the vast majority of its collections were acquired by the City of Harrisburg between 1994 and 1999 under the auspices of Mayor Stephen R. Reed.

State Museum of Pennsylvania: Located in the state capital of Harrisburg, The State Museum of Pennsylvania covers all aspects of Pennsylvania history and holds significant collections, that relate to some of America’s most seminal, well-known events as well as important, historical individuals. Situated next to the State Capitol building. Admission for adults is $3.

Harrisburg City Island: Most of the vendors leave after Labor Day, but it's a great place to go for a walk.

Midtown Theater: A theater in mid-town Harrisburg which plays various “artsy” films.

Strawberry Square: I guess it's a mall and a bunch of other things. It has a clock run by a billiard balls and often has entertainment during the day inside by the clock if your family is looking for something to do.

IMAX at the Whitaker Center: You haven’t seen a movie until you’ve seen an IMAX movie. Central PA’s biggest screen turns any movie into a total immersion experience. The screen itself is 65 feet high and 80 feet wide. That’s a full six stories tall. The powerful 6-channel, 16,000 watt surround sound system makes every film sounds as big as it looks. From under the sea to outer space, educational films to Hollywood blockbusters, 2D to state-of-the-art 3D, IMAX makes every movie experience a moment to remember.
